Alex Kidd in Miracle World Strategy Guide (Video Games & Computer Entertainment)

I had planned to spread the two Alex Kidd posts out but then the digital released was moved up a few days. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, Alex Kidd in Miracle World's remake is releasing today digitally and then physically on the 29th. The updated version does have new levels but I expect some are the same as the original so perhaps this brief strategy guide will be of some assistance. Part one appeared in Video Games & Computer Entertainment's April 1989 issue and part two in the May 1989 issue.

Alex Kidd

Alex Kidd in Miracle World has been remade with new levels by independent developers known as Jankenteam and will be published by Merge Games on June 22nd digitally for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One/Series X, Switch, and PC. Physical copies for the console versions hit stores on June 29th. Before Sonic the Hedgehog was the face of Sega, Alex Kidd was as close to a mascot as Sega had. In 1986 Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars released in arcades (1988 on SMS) and Alex Kidd in Miracle World landed on the Sega Master System (SMS) and eventually became a pack-in title for the console. I've played The Lost Stars on the YouTube channel and I'm not much of a fan of that one. Being based on an arcade game it is short but it's also quite simple. Another of his SMS games is Alex Kidd: High-Tech World (1987), which starts as an adventure game before it moves to a side-scrolling sequence that is quite difficult. Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (1990) for the SMS was his last starring role and I'm not too familiar with it, though as the title suggests, it features elements of Sega's ninja game Shinobi. There is also the Japan-only Alex Kidd: BMX Trial (1987) on the SMS, or Mark III as it was called overseas.

Ahead of the blue blur's 1991 debut Alex did make an appearance on the Sega Genesis in 1989. Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle is a side-scrolling platform game that also has rock, paper, scissors (aka Janken) matches. For this post I've dug up what I could find on any Alex Kidd game in my magazines and I'll have another post later in the week with an old Miracle World strategy guide.

I've been quite slow to post here and upload YouTube videos this month but I need to take some weekends for myself from time-to-time or rather very often this year. As I write this I spent the better part of yesterday making seven attempts to record the die-cast cases video, and that was after making my first attempt on the Friday before. It's not much of a video but I made mistakes and had some issues during the recording process and then had to put together the blog post and it all ended up more time consuming than I'd have liked. Next I need to start work on a die-cast car video and I had a request not too long ago for another Starting Lineup Talking Baseball video which I plan on preparing for July. I also hope to launch another YouTube channel shortly but that might require days increasing from 24 to 30 hours because I don't have enough time!

June is still a month of many game announcements with an E3 digital event taking place again. I'll highlight a few of the reveals though nothing blew my mind. Being a Forza Horizon fan, the unveiling of the fifth game coming later this year was my favorite game of the show. I know, the fifth entry in a racing series isn't anything special but I find the games to be a lot of fun and mostly relaxing to play. Developer Playground Games has been working on the next Fable game too which led me to believe a new Forza Horizon wasn't releasing any time soon.

Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have been working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game that is on target for an October 26th release. Ubisoft and Nintendo showed off the second Mario + Rabbids game subtitled Sparks of Hope. Nintendo made no mention of a new Switch model but it did announce Metroid Dread, WarioWare: Get It Together, Mario Party Superstars, Advance Wars Re-Boot Camp, and a Game & Watch handheld that includes three The Legend of Zelda games plus one mini-game. 

Sony skipped E3 again and Sega is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Super Monkey Ball with a new game that includes 300 stages from previous games. While not announced specifically at E3, Outright Games has revealed quite a few more licensed games recently that are expected to release before the end of the year. Since I've played a few of its games on my YouTube channel and I like to promote family-friendly games, I'll list those here too. The titles are PAW Patrol: The Movie -- Adventure City Calls, My Friend Peppa Pig, PJ Masks: Heroes of the Night, The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem, Blaze and the Monster Machines: Axle City Racers, and Fast & Furious Spy Racers: Rise of Sh1ft3r. I had no idea there even was a Fast & Furious cartoon.

Are you curious about plastic carrying/storage cases for die-cast cars of the '60s, '70s, and '80s? If you're reading this then you must be! I'm being a bit sarcastic as I assume cases aren't too exciting but I've been emptying them as I organize my collection so I decided to share them in a video. Aside from the cases, there are some old cars to see and a bonus from 1995 for Father's Day. Most of the cases and cars in this video are from Matchbox and the image to the right is a Matchbox club offer that was inside the red case. In about a week I should have a video and blog post featuring most of my die-cast vehicles.

Father's Day Bonus

At the end of the video are two Hot Wheels Father & Son Collector Packs that were exclusive to Avon in 1995. In each package is a classic car a father might have played with when he was a kid and its 1995 equivalent for their son. The Corvettes are not featured in the video as I stumbled across that one after I finished the video and was finalizing this post.
