A new ToeJam & Earl game was released today, 17 years after the duo from Funkotron last appeared on the original Xbox. The new game is very much like the original that debuted on the Genesis in 1991 from Johnson-Voorsanger Productions and Sega. I've always loved the quirky characters even though I don't actually own any of the games and I think I only played the first once. We haven't seen much of the characters outside of the three games; Sega did try to get them into Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing which would have been great but that fell through. Despite publishing the first three ToeJam & Earl games, Sega doesn't actually own the property. HumaNature Studios, which is led by Greg Johnson (of Johnson-Voorsanger Productions), is the developer and publisher of the latest game that is titled
ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!
Below I've got magazine scans of reviews for the first Sega Genesis game from Game Informer, GamePro, and Sega Visions. Surprisingly, GamePro, which tends to like a lot of games perhaps more than it should, wasn't too high on the FunFactor score. I'm also including a silly interview Sega Visions did with the characters and a Sega Visions review of the second Genesis game. The Sega Visions reviews really don't have a whole lot of opinion in them but then it is a magazine from the publisher of the games. There are a couple more ads mixed in as well.
