Tokyo Game Show Fall 99 (Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine - January 2000)

Here is another post that relates to the Dreamcast's 25th anniversary, as well the Tokyo Game Show that is currently in progress and ends on Sunday in Japan. It's the Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine's coverage of the Fall 1999 Tokyo Game Show from the January 2000 issue. I scanned this a while ago on a copying machine because the magazine is oversized but these scans are a bit on the small side, and I'd rather not try to redo them on my scanner. It wouldn't be too bad if not for the orange print on a red background on the second set of pages. That's a poor color combination that makes it difficult to read, though you can easily see the game titles in white.

Sega Introduces Saturn at Tokyo Toy Show (EGM2 - July 1994)

Normally this would be the week I post about E3 but that was canceled this year so I'm not doing any predictions though companies are still using this week to announce some new titles through the Summer Game Fest streams and today is the Microsoft/Bethesda showcase at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET. For now though, I've scanned an article from the first issue of EGM2 (Electronic Gaming Monthly Squared) that covers Sega's Saturn unveiling at the June 1994 Tokyo Toy Show, just under six months ahead of its November 22, 1994 release in Japan. Of course, Sega was not well-prepared for the Saturn launch and underestimated Sony as is evident in this article, especially the interview portion on the last page.

The Tokyo Toy Show 1990 (Electronic Gaming Monthly #14)

The 2018 Tokyo Game Show is happening right now but 28 years ago it didn't exist as the first one was held in 1996. Instead, video games appeared at the Tokyo Toy Show, much like how in the U.S. games were on display at the Consumer Electronics Show before E3 kicked off in 1995. Below are 10 pages scanned from Electronic Gaming Monthly's coverage of the 1990 Tokyo Toy Show that appears in issue #14. They did squeeze in a few tiny photos from Japan but not much is said or shown of the show floor. Also, Nintendo skipped the show so Sega and NEC are the highlight, though there are some third-party games for Nintendo platforms.
