It's been a while since I posted some scans of game magazine articles and reviews. I really should have done something for Contra when Rogue Corps released as I try to tie in old reviews with new releases of long running series' but I haven't been able to keep up as well as I'd like. This post isn't tying into anything particular though, I just decided to scan Electronic Gaming Monthly's (EGM) reviews from 30 years ago. EGM was bi-monthly early on so issue #4 is October/November 1989. I'm also going to post a bit more from this issue at the end of the month as part of a Halloween post which is what I'm saving the cover image for. Also, there is at least one repeat review here as I know I used the Tommy Lasorda Baseball review in the Play Ball! post from 2017.
To the right is the Gaming Gossip column; I thought that might be a fun read as well. One item that stands out in there is Konix which they mention was delayed and, of course, we now know it was never released. Another item that I don't know anything about is the surround sound peripheral for NES that I doubt ever released. At the end of the article it's rumored that the TurboGrafx-16 would be in arcades (as might the Genesis) and that never happened. Something else that stands out is the number of spelling/grammar mistakes. I'm thinking this column was thrown in at the last second each month and probably didn't get proofread.
