Dreamcast 20th Anniversary: NFL 2K

Over the next few days I'm going to have what's likely too many posts regarding the Dreamcast for the 20th anniversary of its North American release. The console launched on September 9, 1999 (9-9-99) making the official 20th anniversary four days from now. However, I wanted to post at least one gameplay video and because the 2019 NFL season begins tonight I decided to kick off the coverage today with a "Let's Play" of the Dreamcast launch title NFL 2K. Developed by Visual Concepts and published by Sega, the football game was an instant hit and seeing as how Electronic Arts (Madden series) did not support the console, there wasn't strong competition. The other officially licensed NFL game series' to appear on the Dreamcast are Acclaim's NFL Quarterback Club and Midway's NFL Blitz.

Below are a couple magazine reviews. Dan Egger of the Official Dreamcast Magazine scored NFL 2K a 9 out of 10 while Next Generation's Chris Charla gave it a 4 out of 5.

Sega published NFL 2K1 and NFL 2K2 on the Dreamcast as well, though it released 2K2 on Xbox and PlayStation 2 as it became a 3rd party publisher with the Dreamcast nearing its end. In 2005 it sold its 2K sports line and developer Visual Concepts to Take-Two Interactive.
